David Cook’s emotional speech at the Race for Hope
David Cook served as the grand marshall for the annual Cassidy & Pinkard Race For Hope, a 5K Run/Walk which serves as the kickoff event for Brain Tumor Awareness Week in Washington, DC.
Cook’s team led the fundraising efforts for the race, bringing in $101,687 as of the day of the race.
After the race, in an emotional speech, David announced that his older brother Adam had died the day before at age 37.

Cook’s half brother Adam, an attorney from Terre Haute, Indiana was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1998. Adam was treated and remained in remission for 8 years.
In 2006, Adam’s cancer returned with spread to his spine. Radiation and chemotherapy were insufficient to stop the cancer from growing and early this year, Adam chose to stop treatment.

In 2008, Adam’s declining health caused him to have to cancel a planned trip to California to watch his brother David perform in the American Idol finals.
But Adam’s many friends in Terre Haute rallied to arrange for an all-expenses-paid flight on a chartered medical jet so he wouldn’t miss his brother’s performance.
Adam is survived by his wife Kendra and twin seven-year-olds, Gracie and Gage.
